During these times of national frustration, it is easy to feel incredibly overwhelmed as a person belonging to the BIPOC community. First and foremost it is essential that you take time to care for your mental health and wellness. This is easier said than done, and seeing as how we are a predominantly white school, with white staff and faculty, we are thus using our platform of privilege and as a department to help you in this endeavor. We have collected resources that may better your current state and give you some needed reprise, all of which are voices of the BIPOC community:
A Black Lives Matter Meditation aimed at healing racial trauma
Inclusive Therapists, a site which names says it all. Here, you will find counseling that "center the needs of marginalized populations, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, the LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent folx, and people with disabilities,"
Emotionally Restorative Self Care for BIPOC to help further engage with self-care and your own mental wellness:
As members of the Student Life department at Northern Vermont University, we are committed to providing the best possible wellness related resources, content, and counseling to our students. If you or anyone you know have comments or questions regarding the list below, or have suggestions on how the Wellness Center can better cater towards our BIPOC students, please do not hesitate to reach out so we can continue to improve and learn. We appreciate feedback, and strive to better serve our students and community as a whole.
We thank you for your support, and always remember that we are #NVUJohnsonStrong!
